Discussion about invention of new technologies

Problem: About half way through this recording of her speech, Representative Jordan said people in 1976 (and in the years before that) looked to political parties to fix problems and champion civil principals. When problems such as global warming, unstable markets, and terrorism arise, is it still fair to say that people turn to political parties to fix these problems? When civil principals are compromised by police brutality, wealth inequality, or racism, is it still fair to say that people look to government to champion the principals that encourage more civilized behavior? Does the invention of new technologies since 1976 give people an alternative to political parties when they want to fix problems or champion principals? Does the invention of technology facilitate, change, or diminish people's reliance upon political parties to fix problems and champion principals?
