Discussion about about what good leaders do

How to respond to the following DQ answer.

The TED Talk that I found on coaching is one from Saba Imru-Mathieu and an interesting point that she brought almost immediately was the state of the work force. She talked about how people were suffering both physically and emotionally. She also states the issue of distressing relationships within the work teams. These points are just some of why, a year into the pandemic, many people starting quitting their jobs. The pandemic made people think about what was important in their lives and often times a job in which they were not treated well was something they decided to give up. Another reason is burnout which disproportionately affects working mothers (Mehta, 2021).

This video brings up a great point about what good leaders do and that point is that leaders "ask" rather than "tell". In doing this the leader is allowing the employee to figure out what needs to be done on their own which can be a morale booster. Always telling someone what to do does not allow that person to grow in their field. Asking them questions also is a great way to create a conversation about the job. This dialogue, when asking instead of telling, allows the leader to know and understand how their employee engages with tasks and how much they know.

Coaching is something that many only think of as being associated with a sport. It is interesting that so many companies are now rethinking how their managers treat their employees but utilizing coaching. Coaching is the idea of getting the most out of the employee while teaching them how to do their jobs better. It creates a unique dynamic in which the employee becomes well versed in their job, many times on their own, without their boss being a tyrant towards them. This video is something that can used to just refresh those who are leaders the importance of their employee's overall health and their need for wanting to succeed.
