Discuss ways you would focus on retaining the newly hired

Discussion Post: Recruiting Employees in Corrections

Results indicate correctional systems face serious difficulties in recruiting and retaining an adequate staff of qualified correctional officers.

Correctional agencies are competing with other criminal justice, governmental and private agencies for potential applicants.

Predictions are that corrections will be second to the health care profession on the list of fields that are most likely to be affected by an upcoming shortage of workers.

Recruitment and selection are among the critical issues facing corrections, regardless of an agency's size. Operating with limited budgets and resources, correctional agencies will need to develop and implement new and creative recruiting methods.

For this discussion board, I would like for you to place yourself in the position as the Director of Recruiting at State Correctional Facility and you are in charge of recruiting new Correctional Officers. Your facility administrator has asked you to think outside of the box and come up with creative, innovative, and unique ways you can recruit new Correctional Officers to work at your facility. Discuss some of these ways on this board.

In addition, you can discuss ways you would focus on retaining these newly hired Correctional Officers by addressing these important factors: morale; training; support (from management).

The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
