H. D. , a 38-year-old man, presents to the ED in severe respiratory distress, with profound dyspnea, and wheezing. He reports history of asthma. Home medications include albuterol MDI PRN and fluticasone/salmeterol inhaler twice daily which he stopped taking 2 months ago due to not having any symptoms. Albuterol/Ipratropium bromide via nebulizer every 4 hours as needed Fluticasone/salmeterol inhaler twice daily IV methylprednisolone every 6 hours.
A. What are the priority interventions before and after administration of his prescribed rescue inhaler? What adverse effects will the nurse monitor for development of the patient with administration of albuterol?
