Problem
A. Briefly explain / define the three approaches to Africana history explored in class (Griotic methodology, Liberation historiography and Afrocentricity), then explain which approach you believe to be most beneficial to the expansion of your ethos (self and world view). In your answer, be sure you fully explain the approach(es) to the best of your ability, provide concrete examples of each approach from lecture and/or readings and how it/they may expand your ethos.
B. Fully discuss the features of three African civilizations discussed in class that reveal how the concepts of 'tribe' and 'primitive' are European inventions, gross oversimplifications and/or stereotypes of African realities. Make sure you explain the meanings behind / define tribe and primitive in your answer and provide at least 3 features of each of the civilizations that refute the notions of tribe and primitive.
C. Fully explain how the African origins of (a) Humanity and (b) Civilization can be substantiated using material from lecture/readings. You should provide a minimum of four explanations of African origins of Humanity and three examples that highlight African origins of Civilization.
D. Explain how each of the following necessitated African agency in their quest for 'freedom' -northern ('white dominated' - 'Abolitionist movement,' Lincoln's views on slavery/racial equality, the Civil War and Reconstruction. Please write briefly on each of these 3 factors and provide examples of African agency!
