Alfreda, these are good points. Younger generations of workers have had different characteristics and different expectations of the employer and the workplace in general. In our contemporary culture, one of the challenges for the criminal justice system is to recruit optimal candidates. However, interest levels for entry to law enforcement and corrections may not be as strong as in the past.
This is especially true in bigger cities, where there may be more of a reliance upon individuals from outside of the area because of a shallow recruitment pool. Another potential issue that may be prevalent with the most current subset of the population to enter the professional realm would be the establishment of motivation for these employees.
Consider the current state of these subsystems. How might these challenges impact diversity? Additionally, how might we work to elicit motivation from the newest professionals coming into the field? What might need to be done differently? When you mention fair pay, how might such a program be structured? Explain.
