Batavia, Gallia and Jutland are fictional Member States of the European Union. A 2018 Batavian law prohibits the publication of magazines containing crossword puzzles combined with prize draws. Croix, a Gallian publisher, includes such prize draws in their publications.
A 2020 Batavian law restricts the sale of pornography to special shops where entry is limited to persons above 18 years of age. No pornographic material may be sold outside these shops. XXX, a Jutland publisher, includes pornographic material in one of its "lifestyle magazines" which they want to sell through regular newsagents in Batavia.
The Batavian government wants to stop Croix from including such prize competitions in their publications and XXX from selling their "lifestyle magazine" in Batavia.
Critically discuss whether the Batavian laws of 2018 (crossword puzzles) and 2020 (pornography) comply with EU law.
