Problem
Prescription drug diversion is a national problem that has devastated communities. These drugs are diverted from legitimate supply channels (pharmacies or hospitals) for illicit use- at high profits for criminals. Some of these drugs are powerful narcotics that are stolen through robberies/burglaries of pharmacies, or while in transit from transportation vehicles or fraud schemes (Dr. Shopping) and/or from a family member.
Discuss some of the available tools or crime prevention methods, described in the text, that are available to law enforcement in combating the theft of prescription medication from legitimate supply channels.
Research and discuss what law enforcement agencies through out the country are doing to address the problem of prescription drug abuse; and discuss what a particular department has in place to address this problem.
