Problem:
Develop a response to the following -Our sex influences which communication style we tend to prefer." (Boss, 2025). My style of communication is assertive. "The assertive style clearly and respectfully communicate their own needs and strives for mutually satisfactory solutions." (Boss, 2025). Keeping in mind that I need to communicate with the parents of my 7th grade basketball players, when I speak to the Fathers, the conversation is very different than when I speak to the Mothers. The Fathers want to know about their son's performance and how to improve it, while the Mothers tend to ask about times of practice, jerseys, and snacks... The Team Mother, in particular, asks about what food is best for the team, keeping them occupied before games, mostly logistics that come with a team sport - more logistics than effort or players' playing time. I need to be mindful of how I communicate to the parents. It is important that I speak in a way that the parents can understand and feel comfortable, each one is different and my tone and approach must match that. Boss reminds us that "Most scientists believe that genetics plays a role in differences in communication style. Others believe that the sex differences are primarily the result of the way in which we are socialized. Boys are taught to assert themselves, whereas girls are taught to listen and be responsive." (Boss, 2025). Need Assignment Help?
