Listed below are ten (10) questions, as we discussed in class, select five (5) and answer them thoroughly. Each response should be a minimum of 1Y2 pages in length. You do not need to cite your sources for your answers.
Your responses are due at the end of class on Wednesday, April 256.
1. Discuss routine activities theory in detail. Explain each of the elements required for a crime to occur. How do routine activities affect victimization risks? How does this theory explain the increase in crime in the 1960s and 1970s?
2. Identify the three major shifts in victimization patterns that have been identifies since crime statistics were first gathered. Explain the causes of each. What is expected to occur in the near future and why?
3. Explain the difference between primary and non-primary homicides. In your response give an example from either current events or you can make up your own scenario to hammer home your position/point.
4. Discuss the impact of stalking on victims. What might advocates and policymakers do to control stalking, especially in the realm of cyberspace?
5. What differentiates white-collar crime from other forms of crime, and why is it so difficult to prosecute? What approaches might best control organized crime?
6. List and explain the five approaches to drug control used in the United States. Explain the differences between drug-defined crimes and drug-related crimes and given an example of each.
7. What would you say were the most thought-provoking issues that Detective Sam Palmer discussed when he was a Guest Speaker on April 2nd?
8. Explain, define, and give examples of human smuggling and trafficking and explain the differences between the two.
9. Name and briefly describe the six (6) main types of terrorist organizations and give a contemporary example of each group.
10.What are the key differences between domestic and international terrorism? Provide at least four (4) contemporary examples of each one. Between domestic and international terrorism, which is the most dangerous?
