Global health pioneer and Partners in Health co-founder Paul Farmer, on the need to bring "systems thinking" into the discussion of improving the delivery of health care world-wide. Recorded Sept. 21, 2009, during a panel discussion "Reflections on Leadership for Social Change," part of the inauguration of Jim Yong Kim as 17th president of Dartmouth College.
• CDC on Systems Thinking in Public Health (10 Minutes)
This video provides an overview of why systems thinking is important and what it means to apply it. It describes why our traditional way of thinking may thwart achieving our intended results or unintentionally create worse issues than the ones we're trying to address. Viewers will learn how to better determine if (and how) an issue can benefit from systems thinking, and the steps required to have a positive effect.
After watching the two assigned videos for Week Four, explain how systems thinking applies to the goal of social justice in public health.
