History Discussion: American History After 1865

Part 1: Post a Response

Between 200 and2016, the US experienced remarkable changes internationally and domestically. By any measure, the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001, was a game changer. With that a long, still-ongoing "war on terror" began that meant military engagements overseas and increased domestic security measures. In 2008, remarkably, the US elected its first African American president, Barack Obama. He was elected to a second term in 2012.

Choose and discuss one of the following two topics related to American history under Presidents Bush and Obama:

1. Discuss the Sept. 11 (2001) attack and its impact.

o Describe what stands out to you (perhaps from memory) from the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

o Give two examples of events or changes since 9/11 that you attribute to that terrorist attack. In your view, what should we learn from this attack and our experiences trying to deal with it.

o Identify the source(s) where you read about these free trade issues of that time.

2. Discuss president Obama's election and presidency. (Considering our many explorations of race relations and Civil Rights in our history, there is much that can be said of President Obama's election and presidency, and it is still perhaps too early to evaluate fully.)

o Identify two specific examples that you think were the most important developments of Obama's presidency.

o Explain why you chose those two examples.

o Identify the source(s) where you read about these changes of the early 21st Century.

Part 2: Respond to a Peer

*Discuss President OBAMA's election and presidency, (considering our many explorations of race and civil rights in our history there is much that can be said about President Obama's election and presidency, and it is still perhaps to early to evaluate fully).*

With the mere collapse of the economy, and our constant fear of foreign events, especially following 9/11, America was wondering what will come next. With the coming election the atmosphere was right for the democrat's to take the lead in leading American in a new direction. A significant change did come, A mixed- race senator from Illinois, who came with a surge of energy, hope, and restoration of confidence, that defied the odds and helped America welcome change. On election day, 2008 the race was not close at all. America was about to make history again, and as Americans and foreign countries watched, BARRACK OBAMA (Democratic) (map 29.2) Earned Electoral College and emerging with 52 percent of the popular vote, with a difference of 7million voters, became America's FIRST AFRO AMERICAN PRESIDENT. Better known as #44. President Obama's election was one of the most televised elections all over the world that I had the honor to witness. His trade mark and widely heard, and repeated YES WE CAN, had myself and millions happy to have witnessed this historical event in our life time. Like all the fore fathers before him, America wanted the New president to keep his promises. I believe that he did keep his promises to America, and with many obstacles that he faced, he handled himself always, with grace and class, and never forgetting why he was chosen. I believe and it is my opinion that he did what he said he would do, in the face of such disrespect, and humiliating statements, he still demonstrated and distinguished himself as an American President, who was very transparent, and always put the needs of the American people ahead of his own. It is definitely to early to tell how his legacy will be written in the history books, but at this point what i will write is this. No matter what people say or do to diminish his legacy, and ripe apart his policies for America, we know, he was a TWO TERM PRESIDENT. And I hope to witness history again, with a woman, taking care of America, as President.

*Identify two specific examples that you think were most important developments of OBAMA's Presidency.*

(1). Affordable Care Act or Obamacare, was signed into law by President Barrack Obama, in 2010. It was a major overhaul of the U.S. health care system. Although we were, and still have to pay a tax for not having health insurance, he definitely aimed to reduce the amount of uncompensated care the average U.S. family pays for by requiring everyone to have health insurance. He wanted all, even uninsured people to have health care, and for those who had pre- existing conditions. He also gave tax brakes to small businesses that offered health insure to their employees.

(2). President Obama outlined his economic stimulus package during his 2008 campaign, this plan ended the great recession by spurring consumer spending, and importantly enough, it instilled the confidence needed to boost economic growth.it also restored trust in the financial services industry, this also limited bonuses for senior executives in companies that received the trouble asset relief program(TARP).

Explain why you choose those two examples.

The reason why I chose these two examples, because to me, both compliment each other, and we cant have one with out the other as a country.

There were millions of people who did not have health insurance coverage at one time or another, and for those who did, it was too expensive to the point that people had to make difficult choices, and with the continued cuts to social programs, many families either made to much, and or their incomes levels prevented them from seeking and or gaining medical coverage through social programs. Those social programs only covered medical insurance for Women infants children, senior citizens, and retirees, or very poor to low income wagers. So the health insurance act, really helped cover millions of people. The stimulus act, was another choice that was good because it helped the economy grow, and helped with the great recession. The stimulus program initiated more than 75,000 projects across the nation. And since 2010, the economy has been picking up the pace every since.
