Assignment:
Feeling like an imposter before a meeting
You are sitting in your car in the office parking lot, five minutes before a high-stakes presentation. Your heart is racing, and you hear a voice in your head saying: "You are going to mess this up. On the last occasion they asked questions, you couldn't answer them. You are not cut out for this, and they are going to realize you're a fraud."
In addition, your palms are sweaty, and your breathing is shallow. Your thoughts are spiraling, causing you even more anxiety. Then, you consciously say to yourself, "Stop these negative thoughts. That is not true. On the last occasion you learnt what types of questions they ask, which means that you are better prepared this time."
Furthermore, you tell yourself, "It is okay to not know everything. If you don't know an answer, tell them that you will look into the issue." You also do some self-coaching and tell yourself to relax and take a deep breath. You say to yourself: "You can do this. You worked hard on this, and you are ready."
