Answer the following questions.

There are four alleles for color; Blue, Red, Green and Yellow (B, R, G and Y) and all individuals are homozygous (BB, RR, GG or YY). For the purpose of this Experiments:

• The gene pool is defined as the different colors of individuals that are present in a population.

• The gene frequency is the proportion of each allele in the population, expressed as a percentage . Recall that you start with two 250-ml beakers; one has 50 blue beads and 50 red beads and one has 50 green beads and 50 yellow beads. Using these two beakers, you are going to randomly generate two different populations in two 100-ml beakers. Beaker #1 is generated by randomly selecting 50 beads out of the BR Beaker (= Parent #1). Beaker #2 is generated by randomly selecting 20 beads out of the GY Beaker (=Parent #2).

1. How does the genetic variation differ between "Parent" beakers and the respective derivative beakers? Meaning was the gene pool different in either Beaker #1 or Beaker #2 compared to the parent population?

The percentages do differ between the parent beakers because the gene pools differ.

2. How might your results differ if you sampled 75 alleles? What about 10 alleles?
