The purpose of this problem is to understand the relationship between ideology of sentencing practices and the effects it has in the real world. Philosophy often never faces the realities it sets in motion. There is evidence that the move from rehabilitation to retribution through Just Desserts had a profound effect on American corrections in the 1980's-2000's.Read Chapter 4 in the text and conduct some basic research into the dramatic increase in the prison population during the 1980's through the early 2000's using the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons (Kean Library). In your paper, 5 to 6 pages and no longer than 1250 words, complete the following:
a) Discuss the effects of changing the nation's sentencing ideologies from rehabilitation to retribution in its varying forms.
b) What issues arose that changed the social and political demands for a change in sentencing.
c) What do you recommend take place to reduce the largest incarceration rate in the world?
