Discuss decisions of involuntary commitment

Problem: Ask a probing questions, share an insight, offers support, and make a suggestion for the following: Civil commitment involves decisions of involuntary commitment of a person based on their mental capacity and their danger to themselves and/or others (Melton et al., 2018). When questions of involuntary commitment arise, an approved mental health professional, primarily a psychologist or psychiatrist, will evaluate the person in question. This involves interviewing the person, parties involved, and any available records to make an initial diagnostic diagnosis(es) of the person's presenting disorder (West Virginia Judiciary, n.d.). The psychologist presents the findings to the legal parties present with recommendations of treatment. The insight from the psychologist provides the legal parties involved with insight into the mental capacity as well as likelihood of imminent harm that is taken into account by the magistrate who provides judgment at the time. The reason I selected civil commitments as an area I would like to practice in is that I have helped in this capacity before and will also be doing so in my practicum. I have seen the invaluable help that a psychologist provides to the person in question by offering insight to them as well as recommendations of continued treatment. Not all cases require involuntary commitment, but outpatient treatment can provide in-depth help and services that greatly benefit the person going forward. Need Assignment Help?
