Cultural Immersion
Students will choose a cultural group that is significantly different from you and your identity. A group whose customs, norms and traditions you are unfamiliar with. You are to participate in an activity/event of this group, where you are not the cultural majority (e.g. - attend a religious service, get acquainted with their traditional clothes and attire, familiarize yourself with their family customs, become part of a community event. Students are expected to write a 1-2-page reflection paper and briefly share their experiences with the class: Who, what, where? What was it like for you to be immersed in that culture? How did you interact with others from that group? Be specific and use examples to justify your experience and participation. The instructor does not require a ticket/voucher to prove students attended an event; however, it is at the discretion of the instructor to deducted points or grade the project with a "0" if the student does not provide enough support for their experience.
