There are four Single Case Experimental Designs (SCED's) that Ayres (2024) describes in which are: A-B, reversal, multiple probe, and multiple baseline. These case designs allow researchers to study how each independent variable can affect the person in their environment (Ayres, 20204).

A-B design is the simplest of the four and this is basically the foundation of the other three designs. A-B design is a two phase approach in which there is a baseline behavior and an intervention phase (Roane et al, 2024).

Reversal designs or (ABAB designs) consists of a removal of an item or reinforcement after implementation of an intervention after taking the baseline data. A= baseline and B=intervention. The advantage for using this design is the advantage of experimental control in the lab setting, but the disadvantage could be self injurious behaviors. It is important to take all of the considerations when implementing this design.

Multiple base line can be seen implemented when reversal design is not possible or poses unethical concerns. Multiple base line design is an intervention that is implemented across behaviors, persons, places and settings in hopes to strengthen the suitable responses. Multiple probe design consists of baseline and the use of intermittent data collected instead of continuous data keeping in which saves time and money.

Hybrid designs uses aspects from multiple base line design to enhance the implementation in order to give the client an advantage and lessen their likelihood of failure or continuation of struggling.

Baer et al. (1968) laid out the even dimensions of ABA in which include applied, behavioral, analytic, technological, conceptually systematic, effective, and generality. When used together when implementing SCED's there is a checks and balance of what is ethical and also what is going to help the client become more independent with socially significant behaviors.

The study conducted by Fatime shows the impact of early intervention with skill development can help alleviate problem behaviors. This study displays meaningful advancements that support ABA in a way to promote skills and functional communication in which turn decreases problem behaviors. This study impropriety illustrated the need for ABA and the importance of intentional client based therapy.
