In recent decades, tourism has emerged as one of a small group of service industries which increasingly dominate the global economy.   But, the structure and significance of bilateral tourism has received relatively little attention in the literature, though a number of theories have been developed to describe flows between countries.

Critically define the concept of bilateral tourism and using proper instances to illustrate your arguments, examine and discuss the dissimilar factors affecting tourist flows between two dissimilar countries.

The Tourist Area Life Cycle as given by Butler (1980) is one of the most popular models which have been employed and applied to study the evolution and development of destinations.

a) Using appropriate illustration to illustrate your arguments, critically examine the different phases of the Tourist Area Life Cycle.

b) Discuss and describe how the model can serve as a basis for tourism policies and planning.

Question 3:

The environmental consequences of tourism can be divided into physical and psychological ones.  Their impact can be both direct and indirect.  Ultimately, all changes initiated by tourism occur locally or individually, but add up to global phenomena.  
Critically discuss the global environmental consequences of tourism.  Use appropriate instances to demonstrate your arguments.

Question 4:

Data from the World Trade Organization show that in respect of arrivals and receipts, Africa lags behind all other countries in fulfilling its tourism probable. Also, an assessment of tourism performance in the countries of the South African Development Community region has revealed many obstacles preventing tourism development.

Examine the tourism performance of countries of Southern African Development Community and critically discuss the issues and constraints facing the tourism industry in member countries of the South Africa Development Community.
