Developing a formal proposal for a research project

Label the parts of your response (a) and (b).

(a) In this course, we’ve learned a variety of research methods, including content analysis, surveys, interviews, experiments, and participant observation. At the beginning of the semester, you wrote about your preferences for what kind of research you thought you preferred. Now that you’ve practiced these types of research, we’ll return to that question. Of the research methods we covered, which one or more most appealed to you, and/or is most useful to you (for your work, for example)? Why?

(b) Most students who take this class go on to the social science capstone, which includes developing a formal proposal for a research project. Some people choose a research topic related to their major or job, while others choose an unrelated topic of personal interest. During the first weeks of the social science capstone, you’ll receive detailed guidance on selecting a topic and research method for your proposal. For now, for brainstorming purposes, name at least two topics and two research methods you might want to consider for your research proposal, and briefly explain why you’ve chosen them. (If you won’t be taking the social science capstone, answer the question anyway, with respect to future research you might do in some other context).
