Develop a problem statement for your case study

Assignment

Read this case and answer the question:

Specialists are concerned that continuous stress, regardless of its underlying cause, may result in chronic raises in blood pressure and stress hormone balance. Long-term, this may increase the chance of developing heart disease. Adults who were briefly exposed to loud noise showed transient adverse effects such increased heart and blood pressure. However, there is no definitive proof that chronic loudness leads to hypotension. There may be additional factors that are known to contribute to high blood pressure that have an impact on studies that have established this connection. At this moment, there is insufficient evidence to claim that airplane noise causes heart disease and stress. However, other studies suggest that those who live in noisy metropolitan surroundings for a long time may have a little increase in their risk of heart disease. Aircraft must begin their landing in a different way to significantly reduce noise. We use the CATWOE analysis to address the following problems:

C - for customers

The airlines in this instance, as well as those who work for them and those who will be touched by the shift, are the customers. The airlines and their staff are primarily responsible for putting the change into effect.

In that sense, they have an effect on the transition process.

Actors, with an A.

In this case, the key participants are the airport controllers who must issue alternative instructions, like a longer approach, to reduce the amount of braking required on the runway.

Process of Transformation

Throughout the process, landing will be significantly modified. As it approaches the runway, an aircraft's speed will have already been drastically reduced. After touching down on the runway, the aircraft's wheels are fitted with brakes to bring it to a halt. They will not need to brake for as long on the runway because they can already slow down sufficiently in the air by choosing a longer approach route (which leads to a lot of noise).

As part of the overall system, air traffic control must give the flying aircraft a variety of signals and instructions. The pilots of the different airlines must also start their landing procedures in different ways and pay attention to their brakes. They also work as actors.

Worldview, or W

Due to the proximity of the airport, homeowners will look for methods to reduce aircraft landing noise (from a global perspective). Other participants, particularly the airlines, have conflicting interests. They will probably argue that lengthier approach routes might lead to dangerous airborne situations. Longer travel distances could be uncomfortable for people. The management of the airport may also argue that due to business considerations, they are no longer able to have as many planes land each hour.

Owners, or O

In the end, it is up to the airline owners to decide whether to allow or prohibit changing the approach route and braking technique. The airport board is a key shareholder in this case as well, and thanks to their great influence, they were able to force a change in the protocol.

Environmental Restrictions

The environmental restrictions will have a significant impact on the new strategy. Take into account things like governmental rules, weather patterns, the topography of the runway, and increased emissions that can have an impact on the environment. The competition with other airports might be looked as a constraint on the environment.

Task

1. Develop a problem statement for your case study

2. Explain the rationale for your thinking as to why it is the best problem statement.

3. Identify/Discuss the elements of the problem statement in relation to the Situation Description.

4. Identify the key problem variables for your case study and justify/explain your choices.

5. Develop inferences about the relationships between your problem variables. Discuss the relationship of each variable to one another; and don't forget bi-directional relationships.
