Determining importance is not always easy. What may be important to you may not be a concern to others. Importance, other than what the media feel is important, deals with how the issue impacts the particular field.
For example, disruptive technology obviously impacts a number of businesses. Who would have thought that the cell phone and a simple app based on GPS would launch Uber (car service) and put taxis on the verge of extinction?
