After this, RIcE5 and RicE8 were tested in different cells of the original experiments to determine neutralizing capabilities of the mAb in variable cells. The two cells chosen were Vero cells, found in African green monkey kidney epithelial cells, and A549 cells which derive from human alveolar basal epithelial cells. These were compared to the Jurkat cell used in the earlier testing. They determined the CD50 for the different ricin types being tested against: Ricin D & E and a 1:1 mixture of the two. The new cells showed increased resistance to the ricin types and mixture. RicE5 and RicE8 showed similar neutralization curves for Vero cells and A549 cells, but RicE5 showed lower IC50 for Jurkat cell neutralization than that of RicE8.
