” You will work on finding a scholarly source(either a book, a chapter in a book, or a scholarly peer reviewed article) about your text.. Carefully read and re-read your source. Carefully examine its bibliography and footnotes. Investigate the ways in which your author crafted his/her arguement by finding your authors sources and looking at them. You will need to produce a paper that is 8 to 10 pages at minimum, not including your Works Cited page. In this paper you will do the following :
Analyze the argument, research, methodology, and rhetoric of your chosen article
Discuss how the article illuminates the literary text that is its focus
Describe the ways in which the article’s argument about the text has influenced your reading of it
Your paper must have a thesis, but this thesis will be different. Consider structuring it using the following template ‘In his/her article [title], [scholar’s name] [brief summary of the argument]. She relies on [summary of research methods] in order to make this claim. [Brief description of how the scholar’s argument has influenced your understanding of the text].’
Please note you do not have to agree with the article on which you choose to focus
Successful Papers will have:
A focused introduction and clear thesis that references the article, the author’s methodology and research, and the ways in which the article illuminates the literary text that is its subject
A Detailed analysis of the scholarly source, including analysis of at least 3 of its sources; its research methodology; its theoretical lens (where appropriate); its argument and its rhetoric
A discussion of how this source contributes to your readings of the literary text. This section must include textual analysis; your position, and how it has been enriched by the scholarly text (whether you agree or disagree with your chosen author) must be clear
