Design a study to test behavioral principles

Assignment Instructions:

You will select one of the four broad research topics. From there, you will draft a problem statement, hypothesis and design a research study. You will propose this research as your final paper for this course.

Although there are just four topics from which to choose, you can tailor the actual proposal to your own interests depending on the problem statement you compose. By choosing the population and drafting the variables and hypothesis, your proposal will become very individualized to your own interests.

Use one of these Research Topics:

Topic 1: Identify any skill that could be taught. Then design a study to test whether learning by Doing or Social Learning is more effective

Topic 2: Design a study to test two different approaches to memory enhancement; or one approach tested with a control group.

Topic 3: Design a study to test behavioral principles of operant conditioning in treating addiction.

Topic 4: Design a study that focuses on learning and or memory to address learned helplessness.

Problem Statement:

Write a specific problem statement based on the topic you select. You will identify the population and detail the problem you will research. The problem statement should be between 3-6 paragraphs, fully supported by cited references.

For instance, in topic #2, you might choose to research two different approaches to memory enhancement in middle aged men, 45-60 years old. You could test meditation practice, or problem solving games, for example.

Or, you might decide to research an intervention to enhance memory in pre-med students.

Hypothesis and Variables: From your problem statement, you will write one specific research hypothesis. Then you will identify the dependent and independent variables. You will identify what needs to be measured in order to test you hypothesis.

Method: In this section you will explain how the experiment will be conducted. You will write in such detail as it could be replicated by another researcher. Include a rationale of why you chose this method. Also identify any ethical considerations.
