Problem: Give a response with a question to this text I agree that the term less dead is an accurate way to describe the reality of who serial killers usually prey on/target, even though it is uncomfortable and sad to say. The term is used to explain how certain victims are treated as less important by society and the system, not because their lives matter less, but because of who they are. Victims such as sex workers, the homeless, people struggling with addiction, or runaways are often not reported missing right away and do not receive the same media or police attention (Hickey, 2016). Because of this, serial killers may target them knowing they can offend longer and commit crimes without being noticed. It is also explained that these victims are seen as socially marginalized, which lowers urgency and accountability when they disappear or are killed (Hickey, 2003). Less dead feels harsh and is a term that barely carries any empathy, but it exposes/shows a real pattern in victimization that helps explain how serial offenders work and remain undetected. I have an Aunt that lives on the streets and sometimes in her car. I could see this happening to her. I do not believe her case would be taken seriously, and there would be little to no urgency about it. Unfortunately, it is also because it is so common. Need Assignment Help?
