Describe the induced fit model of enzyme-substrate

Question: Explain this in an easy way for me to understand: Describe the induced fit model of enzyme-substrate binding and explain how interactions within the active site contribute to enzyme specificity. (p. 37). Answer: The Induced-fit model describes how the enzyme's active site dynamically changes shape to mold itself to the substrate as it binds (p. 37). The substrates also change shape during this process (p. 37). The specificity is directed by weak interactions (electrostatic, hydrogen, hydrophobic, and Van der Waals) between the active site and the substrate (p. 37). These interactions stabilize the transition state of the reaction, making it more likely to occur and minimizing wasteful side reactions (pp. 25, 37). Need Assignment Help?
