Group Discussion Facilitation
In Discussions, each group chose a leader to research and utilize in the discussions and papers. Each group chose a leader that can readily be categorized as a "Great Leader." This week the group will collectively select a new leader who could comparatively be categorized as a "Poor, Bad or Ineffective Leader."
1. As a group select one current recognized public safety, military, or public sector leader that will be utilized for this week's discussions and written submissions. Take into account the availability of open source information, and research material when selecting your leaders.
2. Evaluate the performance of the leader and describe the identifiable outcomes of that leader's poor, bad or ineffective leadership. As an example you may use a single significant event or over the course of their career. Don't focus on the substance, validity, morality, politics, legitimacy, etc. of the decisions, processes, policies or methods that resulted in the outcome/s, but on the impact of the outcome. Poor leadership is the cause, the outcome of the poor leadership is the effect.
3. Evaluate the performance of the leader and explain what specific qualities, habits, beliefs and values does this leader display, that categorizes the leader with poor, bad or ineffective leadership, give examples?
4. Conduct in-depth research on your leader to identify the sources and influences on his development as a poor, bad or ineffective leader. These influences could come from personal or learned philosophies, leaders they worked under, education institutions, academies, family members, coworkers, childhood, sports, coaches, corporations, organizations, etc. Try to pinpoint the sources that developed this leader. Be specific about, and describe what philosophy, style, skill, quality, belief, value, etc. came from what source of influence.
