Assignment task:
Talcott Parsons' structural functionalism views society as a system where institutions work together to maintain stability (Parsons, 1951). He believed each part of society-such as family, education, and government-has a function that contributes to social order. A key concept is adaptation, where institutions adjust to meet societal needs. This applies to my selected problem: mental health challenges in foster youth. The foster care system should provide stability, yet gaps in mental health services leave many children struggling. Parsons' concept of integration-which ensures institutions work together-highlights the need for better coordination between social services, mental health professionals, and schools. If these systems function cohesively, foster youth can receive the support they need. However, dysfunction in any part leads to instability, reinforcing the cycle of trauma. Applying structural functionalism underscores the importance of strengthening institutional roles to improve mental health outcomes for foster youth. Need Assignment Help?
