Technology impacts all of us each day. Cell phones, computers, GPS, gaming, streaming, automation, robotics, medical devices, social media, smart watches, apps of every kind shape how we live and work.
Some technologies that enhance my life are cell phones for communication, computers because we are a society that relies heavily on computers, and automation, because in the world of manufacturing and supply chain distribution, it is the technology that drives success or failure. A specific technology that impacts me is medical technology. I have sleep apnea, so I am required to sleep with a CPCP machine. It is a technology that potentially saves my life every day.
The daily technology that I would remove form my life.... Social Media! It is a major distractor and consumer of time. It detracts from family interaction, and with the propensity for bullying and body shaming, to name a few, contributes to negative self-image and negative mental health effects.
We have become dependent on technology for many reasons: convenience, efficiency, work/school requirements, instant communication, information access, and automation/productivity. It is healthy and useful when it enhances our abilities and skills; however, it fosters an unhealthy reliance on automation and technology, rather than applying critical thinking skills.
