The authors noted several limitations. In the study a small sample was used which involved a sample of 15 participants recruited from a maternity hospital in Ireland, which limits transferability of the findings to other healthcare settings and cultural populations. Additionally, participants had access to a dedicated bereavement support team, meaning their experiences may differ from parents receiving care in hospitals without specialized bereavement services (Meaney et al., 2017). Another limitation involves the interpretive nature of qualitative research. Although two researchers independently analyzed the interview transcripts before reaching consensus, interpretation of participants' experiences remains influenced by the researchers' perspectives. Despite these limitations, the investigators described their methodology clearly and acknowledged potential sources of bias, which enhances the trustworthiness of the study. The findings support the need for additional research involving larger, more diverse populations and different healthcare environments to determine whether similar themes are identified across settings.
