Describe environmental sociology and crime prevention

Problem:

Environmental sociology and crime prevention goes hand and hand. Environmental sociology is the study of how an individual's social environment influences their everyday behaviors and the potential of criminal activity. This can include their homes, neighborhoods, or schools. Environmental sociology also focuses on how poverty, the population size, and racial inequalities affect whether criminal activity occurs. Crime prevention is when a set of plans and policies are in place to prevent crime from occurring. These polices and practices address the causes of why crime happens. Throughout the nineties cities that were affected by high crime rates like New York City implemented many different types of crime prevention programs to deter crime. The city expanded police presence in high crime areas. The city added more lights throughout the city. They clean up and removed garbage from communities. This is called situational crime prevention. The purpose of this method is change the environment, making crime harder to commit while making it easier for police to detect. The city provided free counseling to families and youths. This is called social crime prevention. This was to help mend the social issues that they face in their households and communities. Need Assignment Help?
