Continuing education is highly important to my current work setting as a physical educator because it allows our department to continue to develop our teaching practices and provide students with meaningful and relevant information. Zaharatos (2024) emphasizes the importance of effective physical education instruction that is purposeful and relevant to students. This is particularly important when working with adolescents because meaningful instruction can increase student engagement and help students understand how the knowledge and skills learned in physical education can be applied beyond the classroom. Furthermore, continuing education allows physical education teachers to stay informed about current teaching strategies, technology, student needs, and best practices that can improve instruction (Zaharatos, 2024). The level of priority placed on continuing education within my organization can be gauged by examining the professional development opportunities, resources, and support provided by educators (Brunt & Morris, 2023). For instance, regular scheduled professional development, department collaboration, and opportunities to apply newly learned strategies demonstrate that professional growth is valued. Brunt and Morris (2023) address professional development as a systematic process that strengthens knowledge, skills, and attitudes of educators so they can become more effective in positively influencing young people.
