Data analysis is the process of collecting and analyzing data to ascertain comprehension that supports decision-making with two primary methods: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative analysis measures the differences, assesses relationships between the variables, and tests hypotheses by analyzing numbers-based data or data that is converted to numbers without value. This data analysis prepares the data (Office of Children and Family Services, 2022), quantifies the impacts, determines which factors and variables are most influential (Nadimi et al., 2024), decides on the statistical approach, and presents the data with a critical lens (Office of Children and Family Services, 2022). Types of quantitative data sources include surveys, questionnaires, and pre- and post-program tests. These sources gather information from respondents through open- and closed-ended questions to help assess if any knowledge has been gained or if there have been any changes in mental health as a result of participation in the program (Rural Health Information Hub, 2014).
Qualitative analysis assesses the data that is observed and recorded, the kind of data that is non-numerical, and has numerous primary collection methods, such as focus groups, case studies, interviews (Office of Children and Family Services, 2022), program documentation, expert panels, and progress tracking (Rural Health Information Hub, 2014) that may quantify the data by interpretation (Office of Children and Family Services, 2022). Through data collection and analysis of the real-world data (Nadimi et al., 2024), qualitative data is typically used to convey the conditions that affect program outcomes, like geography, community traits, and relationships across the federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial levels (Rural Health Information Hub, 2014). Often, quantitative and qualitative approaches together provide a more comprehensive insight or representation of the data that was collected (Office of Children and Family Services, 2022).
