Depending on the culture, adaptability may be considered a virtue or a weakness. For example, leaders in certain cultures are expected to stick to their guns, regardless of the circumstances. For other cultures, adaptability and compromise are highly valued. Such is the case in Vietnamese culture. A saying Vietnamese subscribe to states, “The supple bending reed survives storms which break the strong but unyielding oak.” Research and examine Hofstede’s six cultural dimensions. As a leader, why is it important to recognize and understand how the relationship between leaders and followers may be affected by each of these dimensions?
