Functions are escape from non preferred activities or demands and access to preferred items. Behaviors occur when tired or not feeling well, when there is a change in routine or transitions between play and hygiene tasks and when there is a lack of preferred toys available.

Anthony does not initiate social interaction with peers or adults. He avoids and ignores peer interactions, does not imitate others' actions or gestures and does not respond to greetings. He does not demonstrate joint attention. He does not engage in pretend play, does not show awareness of personal space or turn taking and does not participate in group activities. He does not imitate gross. motor movements

Anthony enjoys cause-and-effect play (cars, ball rolling, stacking), tolerates periods of parallel play with siblings and positively to preferred songs and routines, especially Miss Rachel. He can engage in functional play with familiar toys including rolling cars and pushing buttons on toys, however, he will only engage functionally for brief periods of time (30 seconds - 1 minute)

Anthony does not use functional spoken words to communicate wants and needs. He does not yet imitate speech sounds or syllables. He does not respond consistently to name or a variety of one step directions independently. He does not receptively or expressively identify common items or objects. He does not maintain eye contact and does not respond to wh-questions. He does not fill in songs or intraverbals. He does not mand for attention or help, does not use or imitate signs (ex: more, all done) and does not match identical or non-identical pictures or objects.

Anthony responds to some one-step verbal directions when paired with gestures. He demonstrates awareness of familiar words (e.g., "car," "ball," "mama") and uses pointing and leading to indicate his wants.
