Assignment: This paper is a formal critical analysis and review of your session in proper APA format with headings and citations. Use formal academic tone, include citations, APA headings, minimum of 3-5 peer reviewed references, and examples of skills etc. along with evidence. Demonstrate academic and clinical critical thinking in your paper using peer-reviewed journal articles and citations from textbooks as appropriate. Please ensure that clients sign the appropriate release forms indicating the session contents will be used for educational and learning purposes, and in compliance with your host site's policies. See example paper in this unit for what a graduate level critical session analysis looks like. Note: the example is from a different assignment. Do not follow it literally- just as an example of graduate level critical analysis of a session.
Your review will include the following in your review:
- 20 Minute total Segment of Video of Session 2 for Review (submitted in supervision assist and identify time frames in session you want to be reviewed towards paper content). - Use video 2 for this assignment
- Background Information (Think of this like sharing a case in a staff meeting- brief and concise. What would help give context to the session?)
- Theory(ies), approaches, or philosophical assumptions framing this session (From what theoretical perspective(s) are you working?)
- Case conceptualization based upon your theoretical orientation
- Client Diagnosis and Justification for Diagnosis using diagnostic criteria and differential diagnosis.
- Risk Assessment (SI/HI, self-injury) and Mental Status Medical History Career and/or Educational needs Treatment plan goals and objectives (minimum 3 goals and 3 objectives per goal) Interventions and treatment goals you utilized. Justify using theoretical case conceptualization and evidence-based best practices.
- Focus in this session (What did you do in the session, what were your goals, how did you move client toward treatment plan goal?) Describe consideration of diversity and appropriate resources and goals for this client's cultural lens.
- What counseling skills did you demonstrate during this session? Quantify skills utilized. Did your counseling skills facilitate the client's progress? (Basically, what did you do during the session and do you think it was helpful for the client(s)?)
- Strengths and Areas of Improvement identified in this session.
- What you will do to improve on the areas you identified as needing improvement. Use academic rigor and cite sources.
- Supervision needs stemming from this session?
- Conclusion/Summary- as if you were staffing the case and giving a peer a brief orientation to the client session in terms of current progress, ongoing goals, and future goals.
NOTE: Use proper APA and formal academic language, e.g. "this writer" rather than "I," with references and citations and academic rigor in your analysis.
