Define why Tom Ripley murders Dickie Greenleaf.  Take a stand on a specific root cause and explain how Ripley became a killer.  Was the cause sexual?  Social?  Ambitious?  Greedy? Love?

I think there are multiple root causes here. I think Tom Ripley wanted to be Dickie. At first, he was very emotional with Dickie and it made Dickie standoffish to him which made him even more emotional. I think he wanted to be Dickie with all of his friends and how everyone liked him. I think it was out of greed because of those reasons.

I also think he did it out of wanting love. Tom acting like Dickie with people was odd. Tom didn't have what Dickie had. He was an outcast and wanted to be like him and have people's love. He also liked the social aspect of Dickie. He liked the attention he got when he was pretending to be Dickie.
