Hello,

Health technology and the way the hospitals run currently are so different than how facilities were run in the past. Every hospital in current ties works off of networks. Gone are the days of paper and carbon paper and written records. I used a system for a hospital called EPIC. In this system, there were EHR Electronic Health Records, filled with everything there could be of presoak health information or PHI. I would use it to pull up claims in a specific are of the system, i did not have access to areas I did not need due to the HIPAA Health insurance portability and Accountability Act. These are all used in a Health Information Network. Meaning all information can be done electronically. Visits, records, addresses, in case of emergency, legal documents, and more can all be found in these places all in different systems similar to EPIC. I use Epic because out of the three I have worked with it is the best. Easiest to navigate while noting appropriately or anywhere that's needed. I think the point earlier regarding not having access is essential. None needs to have rights or access to anyone else information if there is no reason for care. That is one of the ideas and constant issues concerning HIPAA.
