Click on “If Americans Knew” at https://www.ifamericansknew.org, and compare the figures on both sides of the Palestine-Israel conflict for the following: the Israeli and Palestinian Children Killed (September 29, 2000 – Present), Israelis and Palestinians Killed (September 29, 2000 – Present), Israelis and Palestinians Injured (September 29, 2000 – Present), Daily U.S. Military Aid to Israel and the Palestinians (Fiscal Year 2013), UN Resolutions Targeting Israel and the Palestinians (1955 – 1992), Current Number of Political Prisoners and Detainees, Demolitions of Israeli and Palestinian Homes (1967-Present), Israeli and Palestinian Unemployment Rates, Current Illegal Settlements on the Other’s Land.
2. Review carefully and think critically about the observation and conclusion made by professors Mearsheimer and Walt on pages 80 and 111 of the textbook and in PowerPoint slide 207 about “current U.S. policy” and “basic American values” and about the “strategic or moral grounds” for US position on the Palestine-Israel conflict.
3. Write a concise paragraph (100-150 words) in which (1) you provide a short summary of the compared figures by “If Americans Knew,” (2) you provide a summary of the points made by Mearsheimer and Walt, and (3) you provide a brief explanation of why the United States pursues policies in the Middle East that make little sense on either strategic or moral ground.
