Culture refers to a reference group to which an individual connects. For instance, one may identify by race, sex, sexual orientation, heritage, military, civilian, etc. For this activity, you will explore the role that addiction plays within a particular culture.
Choose a culture that you are familiar with or are interested in. The culture you select will be a particular sub-group of the population, i.e., women, men, LGBT, Native American, Black, Hispanic, Italian, Irish, etc. Write a 500-word paper discussing the role of alcohol or substance abuse within that culture. Use the American Psychological Association (APA) style (6th edition) to write your assignment. You should include at least three sources, one of which may be from the weekly readings.
Your essay should address these specific questions:
• How is the substance used?
• How is it viewed?
• What are the rates of addiction in the culture?
• How is addiction handled within the culture?
