Critically evaluate a recent organisational change happened

Question: Organisations and People:

You will be working in a group/team of 5 - 6 students and can either self-select or be placed randomly in a group. Your group will be required to select an organisation which has seen radical changes in the past and gives importance for organisational culture.

Based on the course content and your own reading, produce a management report critically evaluating the organisation's culture and change management. Also, based on your analysis, briefly identify priority areas for future improvements.

For this assignment, you will need to:

• Provide a clear introduction

• Briefly introduce the organisation

• Briefly explain your research methods (eg desk-based, documentary etc)

• Assess the organisational culture(s) using relevant models

• Critically evaluate a recent organisational change happened in the organisation and the role of management/leaders during the change.

• Present your conclusions

• Based on your analysis, identify any areas that could be improved

As this module will involve working in assignment groups:

• Group composition may be organised by students or the module leader (recruitment & selection!).

• One group member should assume leadership and responsibility for submitting the group report (management/leadership)

• Students must organise and manage the allocation of work amongst group members to ensure each member contributes to the achievement of the final mark (motivation, job design & reward!).

• Students are required to manage the performance of group members, keeping records and taking action if individuals do not contribute appropriately. Each member of the group/team must complete the group assignment peer review form and get it endorsed by at least two members of the group. (communication, power, control, self-appraisal and conflict resolution).

• However, where such efforts are unsuccessful and the actions (or non-actions) of group members have or are likely to seriously impair the performance of the group the matter should be referred to the module leader. The matter will then be investigated and appropriate action is taken. Students who are found to have not participated actively in their groups will receive a mark commensurate with their individual effort (potentially zero!).

• The module leader will provide one overall mark for the management report which, in the absence of any documented evidence to proceed otherwise, will be awarded to all group members (group reward). The purpose is to encourage and develop group interdependence and this will be marked favourably. However, if students wish their work to be marked individually, this should be clearly stated at the beginning of the management report, providing student names for each of the individual sections. This will result in an overall lower ‘group' mark.

Assignment guidelines:

• The group assignment should be presented in a report format - see guidelines

• It should be no longer than 3000 words (excluding references and appendices)

• It must include correct/appropriate referencing - including Tables and Figures

• It must also include group assignment peer review forms (see the attachment)

Overall, a high quality group assignment will involve:

• Meeting the terms of reference

• Excellent presentation and layout (style and structure) of management report

• The ability to work effectively as a team to research an organisation

• The ability to analyse and provide explanations, linking to relevant literature

• Demonstrating an overall grasp and understanding of the OB literature

• Submission of group assignment peer review forms with clear explanations about individual contributions.

ONE group management report must be submitted both electronically (through Blackboard) and a paper copy handed into the College Student Care Administration office by due date mentioned in your time table.
