Criminal justice process

Assignment:

Question 1. On a societal level there seems to be little interest in our criminal justice process beyond sensational news bites on TV and radio. People seem to support been tough on crime by enacting tougher laws which result in longer prison time and pay little attention to prevention. Research has shown that education, job training and placement have helped convicted people find a pathway around criminal activities but on a societal level there seems to be little interest in going in this direction. What is the reason tax dollars are not committed to follow what seems to be successful?

Question 2. Several states treat young people between the ages of 16 and 20 years as adults when they are arrested and put on trail. When they are convicted, they are placed in adult prisons. Even when they are placed in juvenile institutions, they are often in "lock down" conditions and solitary confinement. Juvenile advocates reject this type of treatment. What is your analysis of the type of treatment for juveniles?
