Policy Analysis and Briefing
Task description
Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment task is to demonstrate your critical analysis, and more specifically, policy analysis skills as well as your written communication and influencing skills.
Topic:
A range of stakeholders have called for the Newstart allowance to be increased. However, to date, the government has not made any substantial adjustment to the payment or signalled any intention to do so. Your task is to write a policy analysis that concludes with recommendations for government and then summarise this analysis in a briefing note for the Minister for Families and Social Services.
The task has two components:
1. Policy analysis. (Essay format supported with scholarly literature). Word limit = 1,500 words.
2. Briefing note. (Using template provided on the Learning@Griffith course site). Maximum length = 2 pages.
NB: The word limit for the policy analysis includes in-text references but excludes the reference list. Word and document length limits will be enforced strictly with markers instructed to stop reading once they reach maximum word limit or document length. Marks will be deducted for failing to conform to APA formatting in the policy analysis and the supplied template for the briefing note.
