Problem 1: Compare and contrast Chinese (Chapter 8) and Japanese (Chapter 10) immigrants. What circumstances brought each group to America? Who came (men, women, families)? Why? Discuss the racism faced by both groups. Did they assimilate into American Society? If so, in what ways?
Problem 2: Compare and contrast the Irish (Chapter 6) and Russian Jewish (Chapter 11) immigrants. Both groups were in many ways "forced" to immigrate. Explain. Discuss the discrimination and stereotypes each group faced. Give examples. Why were the Irish more able to "blend in" than the Russian Jews? Give examples.
Problem 3: Natives were here. Africans were kidnapped to American shores. Mexicans were "annexed." (Chapters 9, 12, 13) Discuss the similarities and differences in the experiences of the three groups in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Give LOTS of examples (more than 3....).
