Concrete Pavement:
Thickness
The thickness of concrete pavements is determined from the stresses induced due to loads and temperature. The thickness adopted is generally 30-35 cm for highways and 15-20 cm for low volume roads. The concrete used is of high strength and is of M-40 grade for highways and not less than M-35 for low volume roads.
A sub-base of 100-150 mm thick dry lean concrete (DLC) of strength M-10 is provided below the pavement layer. An antifriction layer of plastic sheet 125 micron is provided between the slab and DLC. A drainage layer is provided for draining any water that enters the sub-grade.
