A peripheral milling operation is performed on the top of a rectangular workpiece that is 650 mm long, 50 mm wide, and 110 mm thick. The milling cutter has a diameter of 60 mm and five teeth, and overhangs the width of the workpiece on both sides. The cutting conditions are as follows: cutting speed is 55 m/min, chip load is 0.30 mm/tooth, and depth of cut is 9 mm. (a) Determine the time needed to make one pass across the surface, (b) the maximum material removal rate during the cut.
