In this discussion board post, you will compose a summary of "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" (935-939) and respond to the essay by identifying a quote or passage that feels meaningful to you. Once you have submitted your initial post, you will also reply to at least two classmates.
To compose your post:
Your post will have four main parts: the summary paragraph, your response paragraph, a thesis statement (placed that the beginning of the summary paragraph) that ties the two paragraphs together, and a citation of the summarized essay.
Summary: If you have recorded the overall message and main points of Chalin Xiong's essay in your notes, you have already recorded the big pieces of your summary. Now it's just a matter of connecting the pieces and making them "flow." Your summary paragraph should be at least nine sentences. Include your thesis statement at the beginning of the summary paragraph.
Response: Respond to the essay by identifying a quote or passage that stood out to you. The selection should be three or fewer lines. Remember to introduce the quote with a signal phrase. Then, after the quote, explain why you chose it, or why it feels important to you. Remember to include an in-text citation after the quoted passage. Your response paragraph should be at least nine sentences. Be sure to use strong paragraph development technique and tie your response to your thesis.
