Problem: Consider the following case example:
You are a newly graduated mental health provider. After completing an internship and special training in group facilitation, you are asked to co-facilitate a grief and loss support group at a local hospital. You want to practice within your skillset and competence. Before agreeing to co-facilitate, you decide to observe a group meeting to make sure you are a good fit for the hospital's needs. When you arrive, eight people are attending the group session. Each member has lost a family member in the past six months. The facilitator is engaging, warm, and inclusive with the attendees. The group members begin to share their stories, and the counselor responds with explanations and advice such as "Your partner is looking down on you now and doesn't want you to be in pain," "Your father would want you to sell their house and pay off your debt," and "God has a special plan for your child up in heaven."
Using the ACA Code of Ethics, list each of the ethical codes that are relevant to this case.
Address each code identified with the problem or issue that is occurring in the group and include your perspective on whether this code is being followed (or not). Use the ethics chapter in your textbook to guide you and support your answer.
Based on your own perspective as a person and a future professional, would you want to be a part of this group? Why or why not? Need Assignment Help?
