Complete a state-approved training program

Problem:

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in New York, my scope of practice is clearly defined by the state. I first had to complete a state-approved training program and pass both written and skills exams to become certified (New York State Department of Health [NYSDOH], 2023). In my role, I work under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or Charge Nurse (CN).  My responsibilities include helping patients with daily activities like bathing, eating, dressing, and moving safely. I can also take vital signs, collect specimens, and report any changes I see in a patient's condition (IntelyCare, 2024).

I understand that I cannot diagnose, prescribe medications, or perform advanced procedures like wound care or IV therapy because those are outside my legal limits (NYSDOH, 2023). Knowing these boundaries guides my clinical decision-making. It reminds me to focus on the tasks I am trained and allowed to do, and to always report concerns to the nurse. This protects my patients, keeps me accountable, and helps me work as part of the healthcare team. Need Assignment Help
